We approached The Coonamessett project with respect to the property’s importance in the community. People have been celebrating and honoring traditions at The Coonamessett for generations; it’s truly part of the fabric of the community. In some ways it felt to us like the town’s grandmother's house—a place filled with comfort and nostalgia, family and friends, and the natural place to gather for all occasions. The Coonamessett oozes a feeling of local soul, which is why we are so excited to be involved. While we wanted to maintain the feeling comfort and connection, like you would feel at your grandmother's house, we wanted to evolve the look and feel….think hip grandma. Our intention was to pay homage to some of the Cape’s very distinct and traditional design elements while reimagining a more modern iteration of what that could be. A modern take on toile throw pillows, lace inspired wallpaper, leather, vintage books, sun hats, various installations of decorator’s white shiplap, flowing drapery mixed with streamlined furnishings, like repurposed luggage side tables and polished four-post beds, are all elements incorporated into the new design. Some rooms boast maritime-inspired features like ticking fabric, knotty pine, iron-framed beds, and white washed pickled floors with deep accents in shades of navy and charcoal. We hope to bring The Coonamessett into today while highlighting the millions of stories and memories of its past.
